We were looking at the green grass , enjoying the nature especially flowers….the dandelions .I asked him, if he wants to blow the dandelions ?He said, ” I want to blow and make a wish” .He knows about the dandelions and wishes connection through a recent episode of Ni Hao Kai-Lan .
He took a dandelion in his hand and wished for biggest submarine …….I have no idea where did that come from ……………Little ones are the most innocent -cute people and I love that !
Spring Activity : Dandelion Fun

One of my pledge to go green was get out of the house and enjoy a walk …….and that’s what we exactly did ,Hooray!
Are you looking for outdoor fun activities ? Do come back and check as I am coming up with many fun activities soon.
We celebrate Earth Day today 22nd April ,Monday.
“The world grows smaller and smaller, more and more inter-dependent. Today more than ever before life must be characterised by a sense of universal responsibility, not only nation to nation and human to human, but also human to other forms of life.” H.H. the Dalai Lama
We and our children can act thoughtfully and become aware of the many opportunities we each have every day to “help our earth.”
The 3 R’s are Reduce, Reuse and Recycle: When we “RRR,” we save the earth’s precious natural resources.
Every Family can do something to “Go Green”.
Small Steps as to make our world a better place to live now and for our future generations.
In my opinion there is no theory required to teach Kids about Earth Day and going Green. Kids learn watching us and if we follow few small steps such as
#Separating Plastics and Paper from our Trash
#Using your own bags when shopping
#Washing laundry in cold water
#Turn off the water while brushing and doing dishes.
#Turn out the lights when u leave a room.
#Buy Organic produce from local Farmers Market.
#Get out of the house or gym and enjoy a walk in the park.
Ashrith my 4 year old has been following and learning about Recycling from me. Before going to the recycle bin, I show him all the milk bottles and other and allow him trash them in the recycle bin.
My favorite spot for him to learn about various things to recycle is the Target Store. As the picture suggests these bins have logos on it and Ashrith enjoys to tell me what goes into each bin .
These are a few steps, I take to go green,What are your green plans? Any tips and suggestions are welcome.
Please feel free to leave your comments.
My 8 year old niece Sharanya was joining us for the Super Bowl party and helping me with the decorations .She is a smart, creative kid with lots of ideas flowing .She drew all the Raven logos on paper rolls and colored them .Most of the center piece was done by her, of course with a little help from me.
Materials Required :
Paper towel roll and toilet paper rolls
Favorite Team logo and stickers
Poster paper /Tissue paper
Disposable paper cups
Wrap poster paper or tissue paper around the tub.
Glue team’s logo and fill the tub with packaging
Decorate with markers the rolls and top them with decorative bows.
Place the paper towel roll in center of the tub.
Now place the toilet paper rolls on inverted paper cups.
Note: I have put packing materials in the tub for decorative purpose but you can always use it for putting drinks, serving chips or any kind of food.
The Ravens logo we used in the center of the tub was cut from a paper plate we bought at Party City.
Decorating for the Game night was a great family activity .. had loads of fun
Our Family is a huge Ravens fan and we hope Ravens win the Super Bowl this Sunday. We live in the Steelers country so didn’t find many Ravens decorations in store therefore planned to make something special myself. While going through one of Parenting magazines I came across this wonderful garland making with disposable paper cups,it was beautiful and easy .
Party paper disposable cups
Construction /poster paper
Cut out letters that spell “Go Ravens” .
Glue a letter to the front of each cup.
Using a Craft Knife, cut an X in the center of each cup bottom .
Push one light in to the bottom of each cup and hang .
I have used purple cups for Ravens team but you can cut apart a cup so it lies flat to create a template.Trace it on to decorative paper, adding an extra
1/2 inch on one end, and cut out shapes.Place a strip of double-sided tape on one end of the paper. Wrap around each cup and attach with tape.
This gives a cup patterned look instead of just one plain color.
Caution Note : LED lights are safe for small children and wont get hot.I have used the regular lights bcos it was meant for decoration purpose only and didnt intend to switch the lights for a long time .We plan to switch on the lights everytime Ravens make a Touch down !!
Going Green this holiday season and didn’t want to spend a lot of money on gift wrapping …. packed all my gifts in newspaper. I had plenty in hand …..so quick solution for a wonderful Green Christmas Gift wrapping paper idea.
Finding ways to Reduce:Reuse:Recycle…….Go Green!
Did u know 1 out of every 6 Americans struggles with hunger but we are one of the fortunate people who are able to eat healthy breakfast and make a nourishing dinner for our family.
Tomorrow May 12th, Feeding America is calling everyone to help “Stamp Out Hunger” with the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive. Stamp Out Hunger is the largest one-day food drive in the nation and will help feed millions of families in all 50 states!
Please donate as many non-perishable food items as possible to support this cause! If you would like to donate, simply fill the bag with non-perishable food – like canned soups, canned fruits and veggies, cereal, rice, juices, peanut butter and pasta – and then be sure to leave them at your mailbox this Saturday, May 12th as part of the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive. Your letter carrier will pick up your items and deliver them to local food banks or pantries.
It is good time to clean your pantry as well as donate few groceries.
I already have a brown lunch bag (handwritten Stamp Out Hunger logo) set out for my postman tomorrow. Few of the things I put in the bag are boxed pasta, oatmeal box, brown rice, sauces, it’s just what you have handy in your pantry right now .
Caution Note: Please do not include items that have expired or are in glass containers.
Our little effort can truly make a difference in someone’s life.
Pls leave your comments on whether you know about this charity or what you are donating ?
A huge crayon is ready for kids pretend play and easy craft idea for kids ages 4+. There are lot of crafts you can make with paper towel rolls and use for pretend play. These handmade crayons can be used for any art related theme party decorations or Elmo theme birthday party.
My son pretends to be a pirate and loves to use the paper towel roll as a telescope to find the treasure. Pretend play encourages kids to use their imagination and also build their learning skills .
Another great way to teach kids reuse eveyday materials.Reduce:Reuse:Recycle…Go Green.
• Paper towel rolls
• Color tissues
• Poster board paper /cardstock (black and colors)
1. Wrap at least 2 or 3 layers of tissues around the paper towel roll and fold the extra tissue at the edges into the holes.
2. Make a cone out cardstock.
3. Now fix the cone on one edge of the paper towel roll i.e in the one of the holes.
4. Cut long strips of black cardstock paper
5. Glue them on top and bottom of the paper towel roll just to resemble a crayon.
Water Play is so important for young children that it shouldn’t be available only outdoors in warm weather. Indoor water play can go on all year long!
What if u don’t have one of those expensive sand and water tables , you can use something you already have in home like a old baby bath tub or a 16 gallon plastic storage box .
Kids of all ages love to play with water, and of course have to be supervised, but you’d be surprised how long little water and few toys will provide entertainment.
I have a baby bath tub which I use as a water pond for my 3 year old.We make paper boats to float in the water or just play with bath toys like ducks and other animals.
Water play provides opportunities for imaginative play and at the same time, they use their minds as they explore why certain objects sink in water and others float. Children learn concepts such as empty/full, before/after, shallow/deep etc.
Caution Note: Water table or baby bath tub or plastic box anything used for water play must be cleaned regularly to prevent germs that can grow in warm, wet places. Always let items air dry before allowing children to play with them . Stay close to children when they are playing around water.Watch carefully for safe and successful play. Recently we bought Ikea Expedit bookcase for organizing my son’s books and toys.
The shelves of the bookcase were large packed flat item. Each melamine panel was separated by large sheets of white paper /tissue paper.
While unwrapping, I decided to use the paper but how was the question?
Very soon I got my answer,
The perfect solution was to use the paper for my son’s finger painting and water color paintings.
I rather use a paper from the recyclable pile then buying new white paper.
Teaching my 3 year old to Reduce:Reuse:Recycle…….Go Green .
