Earth day Craft : Sparkling Earth

Today my niece is here with us for a sleep over and whenever she comes over I plan for fun activities .
The day starts with a yummy kiddie breakfast, outdoor play with water sprinkler in the garden or indoor fun with board games ,Legos or art/craft.
We go for a outing too maybe a book store or a carnival . After a tired day of fun , we get into our PJ’s and read books.
My son and niece love Art and craft. They call themselves best artists in the world. Today is Earth Day, so we are making a Sparking Earth with lots of glitter and paints.
It is a planned art project with all the materials ready for them to use. Below are all the details of the
Earth day Craft : Sparkling Earth project.

Materials Required:
Black and white Poster/Construction Paper
Green,Blue and white paint
Glitter(gold or silver)
Star stickers

Using Scissors cut a cirlce out of white construction paper.
Now ask your child to sponge paint the white paper using green and blue paints to resemble the earth.(Dabbing paint is the trick.)
Add glitter over the wet paint.Let it sit to dry for some time.
Take a Black  Construction Paper and glue the earth in the center .
Decorate with star stickers to resemble the sky.
Note: If you have a older kid like my 9 yr old niece ,you can have them paint white stars.
What a lovely way to teach your children about Earth Day and showcase their art. What have you been doing this Earth Day ?Please leave your comments.

Spring season activity : Foam Flowers

Today is the first day of spring ,this season always remind us of flowers. I have a easy art and craft activity for your child. If you have a toddler who is not allowed to use scissors or glue ,then this is a activity you will love.
Spring season activity : Foam Flowers

We are using my favorite self-adhesive Geometric foam stickers from Michaels store .The tub has wide variety of shape stickers and the colors are so eye catching , you’ll fall in love.

Spring season activity : Foam  Flowers

Materials Required:
Creatology Foam Stickers , Geometric Shapes (Michaels store)
White poster paper
Green marker

Draw several stems and leaves on a white paper using green marker.
Ask your child to peel the backing from the shapes and press them above the stems to make flowers. My four year old was just fine with it as Foam stickers are easy to peel and stick .
I made one on the yellow paper and then Ashrith made his own flowers on a white sheet of paper .
If you notice , I used triangles to make a bud and he used squares for flowers which is quite interesting way of using geometric shape foam stickers to make flowers .

Lessons Learnt:

Recogination and learning about shapes and colors.

Kids use Imagination and creativity to transform basic shapes into flowers.

Peeling stickers helps in improving  fine motor skills

Quick Tip : Older Kids : If your child is old enough to draw  ,he /she can draw the stems or use green foam stickers to make a stem pattern .
Activity for Toddlers and Preschoolers : If you are working with toddlers , you can draw the outline of flower shapes too . The little ones pick the right sticker to match the shape outline . Thus, making it great activity to learn matching shapes.

Kids will be happy to call it their own art piece to display.

Preschool Project: Family Shamrock

Ashrith’s Preschool teacher send us a green 3 leaf clover in preparation of St.Patrick’s Day . She wanted us as a family to help our child to think of 3 reasons as to why they are ‘Lucky ” or “Blessed”. She asked us  to decorate the clover as we like.

Preschool Project: Family Shamrock
After talking to Ashrith we came up with these
3 blessings ….Family ,Food and Toys .

Materials Required:
Green paper 3 leaf clover
Foam frame
Magazine cutouts

Draw a family picture and if your child is not interested in drawing you can always use a family photo. We Used a foam frame to the picture.

Decorate the clover with child’s favorite toy pics .

Find various food pictures from magazines. Cut and Glue Magazine pictures when required.
We used few stickers too.

Lessons Learnt :
Counting blessings : I think doing this project as a family will help kids understand they’re luckier than most .
Improves Thinking skills : Make a list of pictures needed for this project. Kids carefully look through the magazine and find the perfect pictures . This activity makes them wear their thinking hats thus improving their thinking skills.
Develops Fine Motor skills : Little hands can develop fine motor skills by learning the proper way to use scissors and cut pictures from magazines.

I divided the project into portions , so my little one is not too tired . We managed to find the best pictures on day1 , on day 2 he drew the family picture and on  day 3 we  assembled everything .
